Pablo's Group is the largest group of Central African mountain gorillas ever studied by the Karisoke researchers, and continues to grow steadily, with several infants born recently. Silverbacks Pablo and Cantsbee are in charge, and the handsome Umurava is now a silverback as well. New infants continue to appear, making this one of the most exciting African gorilla groups to observe, with around 60 members! The group appears to be strong and vital, always with numerous juveniles and infants and plenty of females to engage the silverbacks.
The matriarch of Pablo’s group is a female named Puck, who was born in 1968. She joined with Pablo in 1993 and now has numerous offspring and grandchildren. In fact, Cantsbee, the dominant silverback is actually her eldest son, although Puck tends to spend more time with Pablo.
